First Signal is a daily newsletter. This page says what we know about you when you subscribe, why, and how to have it deleted. The short version: we keep what we need to send you the newsletter and to learn which pages bring readers, we never sell or share it, and you can leave at any time.
What we collect
- Your email address, and whether you're subscribed, confirmed or unsubscribed.
- When you signed up and confirmed.
- Where you signed up: the page and the sign-up box you used, the website that sent you to us, and any campaign tags in the link you followed (for example "utm_source").
- Which emails we sent you, and whether they were delivered.
Kit, the service that sends our emails, also records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, as most email services do.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent or share your information with anyone, and we don't show ads.
- We don't use analytics, advertising cookies or tracking scripts on this website, and we don't record your location or device.
Where it's kept
Your subscription is held by Kit, which sends our emails, and First Signal keeps its own copy to run the newsletter. We use it only to send you First Signal, to welcome you when you join, and to understand which pages and links bring new readers.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of every email. It takes one click.
- Ask us to delete your information by writing to [email protected]. We delete it from our copy and from Kit.
We keep your information while you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep only your address and the date you left, so we never email you again by mistake, unless you ask us to delete that too.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
